Our Journey

Healing Heart Foundation, Inc. and its first program, Healing Heart Pet Hospice was born from a gathering of like-minded people with hearts filled with love and a drive to honor the pets in their lives past and present.  With a long career in veterinary medicine and the last 15 years in emergency/critical care, our founder saw the need of pet families to have more options when entering into the End of Life stage with their pets.  Often during this time,  families just wanted to bring their pet’s home to live out whatever time they had left.  But, that meant these families were often left to wonder about whether their pets were in pain, were the medications they were giving helpful and often, how would they know when “it’s time”? And, who was there to support them?   Who could they feel safe with to understand this incredible bond?
Human hospice, for many years, has dedicated professionals to oversee the care of life-limited people. They recognized the amount of time needed to devote to hospice patients and their families.  Like our human counterparts, veterinary hospice and palliative care honors the relationship with primary care veterinarians, and respects the need for the specialized type of care that hospice philosophy brings.

We have gathered folks who are devoted to the spirit of the human animal bond.  We’ve created a service to answer the public outcry for an option to End of Life care for their pets as well as future programs for respect and recognition of how pet loss can have an impact on someone’s life.  Also, we are committed to doing our part to strengthen the human animal bond for those less fortunate.

By becoming a 501c3 non-profit, we gained the ability to give even more to our community in Northeast Wisconsin and plan on using multiple avenues to serve our community in even more ways.  Read more about the people that make up Healing Heart Foundation, Inc. and find out why you’ll want to join us in this celebration of life with pets!
